Chesterfield in Derbyshire,

Chesterfied is an ancient Market town, found in Derbyshire.

Beautifully tiered, beamed, Tudor style buildings can found all over this bustling town, and it's worth stopping to actually look up sometimes, otherwise you'll miss them!.

The photograph above, shows the famous 'Crooked Spire' which the town is famous for.

Legends abound around the reason for this Spire, having such a strange appearance, the most common one is that the devil sat on the spire for a rest on his travels and ooops...

In actual fact when the church was built ,unseasoned wood was used to build the Spire, and this is the result.

Local school children have had some amazing trips inside this church, (up and down those many, spiraling, steep steps, lol). If you do go for a visit,  the local clergy are very friendly, and helpful with any questions about the building. It's full of intricate stained glass windows too.

If you wish to light a candle for a loved one, the little booth is on the right hand-side, towards the Altar end area.

All around the building the spring bulbs now beginning to flower, and the trees sit among them, not quite blossoming yet, but quite a beautiful sight in Spring. Just towards the back of this image, is the War Memorial remembering the people who gave their lives to preserve the freedom of this, their, part of the world.

Most of the work for years, centered around the mines, or the Forces, but with changing times, factories came along too and things changed. There are many closures taking place at the moment, but there are also an awful lot of small businesses suddenly springing up and the shops are moving from one building to another as they manoeuvre around for pole postion. Things are on the change here.

There are many restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops so having a good sit down and a decent cuppa, is never a problem.

The Shambles, is found just at the far end of the market, and contains a florist, a few clothing shops, The Body Shop, a vegan coffee/cake shop, and metaphysical shop to die for - wonderful!  If you look around (It's not a huge spot), you'll find The Royal Oak which has a history connected to the Knights Templar.

This is an interesting link to Chesterfield.

Blessings Elspeth.

Look at all those wonderful shops and streets to explore, maybe one day I'll get there.  I've always been fascinated by that spire.  It's a bit like over here with the metal roofing and sculptures that are not treated, and slowly turn green.  Folks ask why on earth everything is so green

Oh, that could have been posted in "This world of ours", one of my sites, but regardless, it is a great post!

Go for it if you want to Carmen. It's mine anyway x

No, Elspeth, you should post it yourself, otherwise will appear as mine.

  1. It's ok..if my name's on the bottom..I don't mind.

You do realize, Elspeth, I'd slip and break my neck on that wet road.  lol

It was throwing it down, and I was on the way home. Seems like another lifetime.
