This Saturday we will have one of the largest full moons in well, many moons... a couple of decades. I don't know about you, but I'm hoping for clear skies to catch a glimpse of that big beauty.

I've been around for more than a couple of decades, and I don't remember there being any big incidents thought to be related to large moon phenomena personally. However I also know that our occurrences of quakes and other events some speculate may be influenced by the pull of the moon are on the increase, and times not being what they were, perhaps the closer proximity of the moon may be just that extra stress to trigger an event.

What are your thoughts on the mega-moon?

Moonageddon: on March 19, our nearest neighbour will be at its closest since 1993

IT'S not a bad moon rising, but it is a big one.

The question of whether trouble's on the way, however, is entirely up to what or who you believe.

In a fortnight Earth will experience the biggest moon it has seen in nearly two decades.

As well as providing some unique photo opportunities, some astronomers - well, one - are already predicting it may bring more worrying disruptions to the Earth’s climate patterns.

Earthquakes are not out of the question. More about that later.

For now, all you need to know is that on March 19th the moon will be at its closest point to Earth in 18 years, an event that is known as a “lunar perigee”.

Or the much more exciting “SuperMoon”, as one astrologer called it.

On March 19, the moon will be just 356,577km away from Earth, an event that has internet theorists a-quiver with the possibility of extreme weather, earthquakes and volcanoes.

I'm two minds about the big Moon. I do believe that the extra stress on the earth's crust may be one of the reasons for earthquake catastrophes - and we've all witnessed the recent devastating effects - but without the movement of techtonic plates there would be no mountains, no valleys - just one piece of land with a very limited selection of life forms. Is it unfeeling of me to suggest that modern cities should not be built over an area of known seismic activity?

Personally I'm looking forward to the extra-hgh tide washing the base of the cliffs at nearby Happisburgh, Norfolk, where I visit at least twice a week to retrieve stone age tools. There's such a buzz when you find and hold a razor-sharp flint tool that was left there 800,000 years previously - a simpler time.

I'm looking forward to being able to stand out under it and know that it's the closest I've been since I started to truly investigate a faith - especially one that holds the moon so important. I plan to take the time to expose my ritual tools to Her rays and take them through a fresh blessing ceremony.

As to fears or concerns of significant events? Not so much. This world has been around for a long time, and events occur constantly that can and do affect our lives. We adapt and we continue. This one will be no different. That being said, if I am wrong, I invite everyone to thumb their noses at me. :)

I personally was going through some heavy emotional changes in 1993.  Perhaps the seismic activity is more about the earth shifting on her axis, rather than the wrath of Gaia and many other far out things I have read lately.
LUNApocalyps!

Spooky Old Fox...I propose a new ritual to welcome the full moon...everyone pull moonies at the moon and see if the light reflected off our white bottoms won't create as much a spectacle for anyone looking down as the moon creates for us looking up!

(note...moony/moonies may be a slang term and not all forum members may understand it - but in the UK it's a term we use to describe flashing your bottom/bum/ass at someone...usually in fun...not some weird flasher thing!)

I heard that it's the closest the moon has been to the earth in 827 years...so let's all hope for a clear night because she could look even more spectacular than she usually does :)

Re Alan Gripton's comment...I thought that maybe the gravitational shift due to the moon's proximity might have something to do with the earthquakes...others have put forward the idea that the electro-magnetic energy from the additional solar flare activity we've had may have contributed...so far however, the scientists are saying 'no'...though...it's not like they're always right eh?

Certainly everyone I know seems to be feeling the emotional effects of the moon right now but...equinox times often feel like that anyway.  Whatever the case, now seems to be a time of big change!  :) X
