"There are thousands upon thousands of receptors on each cell in our body.
Each receptor is specific to one peptide, or protein.
When we have feelings of anger, sadness, guilt, excitement, happiness or nervousness, each separate emotion releases its own flurry of neuropeptides.
Those peptides surge through the body and connect with those receptors which change the structure of each cell as a whole.
Where this gets interesting is when the cells actually divide.
If a cell has been exposed to a certain peptide more than others, the new cell that is produced through its division will have more of the receptor that matches with that specific peptide.
Likewise, the cell will also have less receptors for peptides that its mother/sister cell was not exposed to as often.

So, if you have been bombarding your cells with peptides from negative thoughts, you are literally programming your cells to receive more of the same negative peptides in the future. What's even worse is that you're lessening the number of receptors of positive peptides on the cells, making yourself more inclined towards negativity."

Thoughts cause emotions which the effect is chemical reaction in the cells.
The reason we get bored is "low" peptide levels. Whether the positive or negative is not filled, the feelings are boredom and "emptyness". Thoughts are on how to stop the boredom. Drama and gossip with negative emotions grow and travel much faster than positive emotions.
Depending on what the individual desires are , thoughts and actions are played out based on and connected to the peptides that the body craves.
Doing what one loves ,challenging the self  and when dwelling too much in the darkness search for silver linings and will retrain the brain.

“Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.” Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Retrain the brain via the thoughts to achieve a healthier state of mind and body.

"Whenever you find tears in your eyes, especially unexpected tears, it is well to pay the closest attention. They are telling you something about the secret of who you are." - Frederick Buechner

My husband works with a guy, that hates his job....he still hasn't figured out to do something he loves, retrain his brain...it he can turn it into a job, so much the better...It's had for some to take that first scary step.

I saw a interview of a 100 year old man on his birthday , one of his tips was do work you love. He worked in some craft shop and still goes to work.

It is also a key to good health and having a functioning society. Work not just as in paycheck work but all the activities and hobbies.

Thanks for posting this. The Alchemist is one of my favorite books, but I often forget its many lessons. This was a great reminder.

The Alchemist is one of my favorite books too Rende.  Another good book by Paulo Cohelo is the Warrior of the Light.  Read WoL when it first came out in 1999 (around that time) and got me to searching more of his books.

I like the photo you are using for profile pic.

Thanks. I don't remember where I found this pic so I don't know who to give the credit to. I'll definitely add Warrior of the Light to my "to read" list. Need to finish the Witch of Portobello first though. Haven't made much time for reading lately and I'm way behind. Guess I need to retrain my brain to make time for it.

Witch of Portobello is a good one.  I have long list of books , movies and podcasts suggested. I don't get around to all of them. Good thing about Coelho's books are that they are an easy read. Not too heavy on the mind.

Main thing to take with retraining the brain is to keep your peptides up. Make time for positive peptides with doing things you enjoy , moves you and makes you laugh.  If you have negative harmful thoughts , make sure to counter it with a positive thoughts.

Especially how things are today so much doom and gloom in the world with politics agenda causing division and confusion. We are picking up so much on subconscious levels even when our awareness is on something else.
