BLACK DOG ABYSS

I stand at the edge of a great abyss, the colour as dark as coal....…
a gathering of black dogs behind me.
My mind is fractured, slowly breaking into individual pieces,
each piece being precariously linked to one of the black dogs.
Emotions are a raging anxiety slowly dissipating and being replaced by numbing madness.
The abyss offers itself as the one true relief of all my pain and as if a living entity,
whispers to me of a soothing darkness devoid of pain, devoid of sound.
Beckoning gently as the dogs at my back slink slowly closer.
With a single step I am free from a lifetime of disappointment, despair, loneliness and unfulfilled dreams.
The enveloping darkness offers comfort, quiet and unconditional nothing.
Peace at long last.

Cool poem. I like to read about mythological creatures.

Hi Stephanie,

I know that there are many references to Black Dogs in Mythology, Folklore, etc., however this reference was used by the late Sir Winston Churchill to describe his very deep depressions. I have borrowed this term from him to describe my depression because it seems to fit. Funny thing is that I love Dogs including Black Dogs but the other refers to a Black Dog of a much more sinister nature of course.

Thanks for reading my poem and commenting.
