Why I wish to join The Temple & how I found out about it...
I came across the writings of Ophiel and like his approach. I got on the internet to learn more about him and found Ray Howard's Edward C. Peach google group. He had shared a video from this site. It was a demonstration of the Lesser Banishing Ritual. I appreciated that it was done simply, in a plain room, with no blah-blah-blah. I am interested in more videos.
About Myself & My Interests..
Bachelors in Liberal Arts, short stint in the Army, lived in Turkey for two years, now work at an archive. I burn a lot of incense. Go to the occasional art opening. I love my two cats. My totem is the red fox, but squirrel has a lot to say to me too.
My Teachers & Influences, What was it about them that influenced me?
I was brought up fundamentalist. I am now a member of the Episcopal church which allows for an open intellect. So, Jesus, but without all the hating, has always been a big part of my life. His teachings against hypocrisy, his ability to see through the facades of holiness some people wear, and his mercy, all inspire me. I found Edgar Cayce when I was in high school and found him fascinating. After reading one of his books before going to sleep, I had a dream that I can't remember, but I woke up knowing that I hadn't wanted to come back to Earth this time, I was encouraged to. This from someone raised fundamentalist. He opened doors for me. I played the lead of G.B.Shaw's Saint Joan while in college, which was a turning point as well. There were times when I did not remember having gone out on stage. It was also the first time in my life when I felt like I was REALLY good at something. It helped with my confidence in many ways. I started studying with the Builders of the Adytum a number of years ago and appreciate their non-flashy approach to study.
Authors and/or Books I appreciate
Paul Foster Case, Jason C. Lotterhand, Catherine MacCoun, R. Ogilvie Crombie, Ted Andrews, Patrick Dunn...I read mostly non-fiction, but do love me some Jane Austen knock offs for a nice fluffy read, or a "cozy" murder mystery. Right now I am reading The King's Grave by the lady that spearheaded the job of finding Richard III's grave.
Musicians and/or Music I appreciate
I listen to a bit of everything. Having been a little kid in the 70's, I looove disco, love funk. Classical, go to the opera from time to time. I love the Ultra Lounge compilations that Capitol Records put together. There's a bar that has open mic night for Irish music, enjoy that. Also like "world" music, traditional music from different cultures.
Films and/or Film-Makers & Actors I appreciate
Well, Star Wars was the first PG movie I saw and, at the time, the effects blew us all away. I still count it as one of my favorites. Watch a lot of documentaries. I love Benedict Cumberbatch, of course. Will Ferrell makes me laugh really hard. I think Zorro the Gay Blade is really funny as well, and I love The Muppets, and the Marx Brothers. I used to be into more "serious" movies, but, meh...I have enough serious in my life without that.
Artists and/or Art I appreciate
Was really into Dada in high school, loved (and still love) the tongue in cheekiness of it. I own a couple of pieces by a local surrealist artist named Ryan Geiger. Jeff Koons' stainless steel works make me happy. Van Gogh I really like, and I enjoy Mexican folk art.
