How Red Sand Is Highlighting Human Trafficking
To raise awareness on human trafficking, The Red Sand Project asks participants to scatter red sand on their cities’ sidewalks. (all images courtesy Molly Gochman/The Red Sand Project)

Women make up nearly half of the workforce, yet old-fashioned policies keep them unequal partners. To remedy this, we must first ensure basic opportunities—like making sure girls can get to school.
Shelia Williams, a single mother of five in Memphis, Tennessee, was putting herself through college when the city cut bus routes within the low-income, primarily Black neighborhood where she and her family lived. She almost failed her… Continue

This is for the girls who never had their number taken by guys at a club, Continue
girls who are always picked last, never the first choice
those who exist at the periphery of everyone's vision, never taking the spotlight for themselves
those who never got beyond the usual "hi" and "hello"
girls who are used to having that space between "girl" and "friend"…

Dear creepy heterosexual men guarding our bathrooms,
My entire life, I've been told to fear you in one way or another. I've been told to cover my body as to not distract you in school, to cover my body to help avoid unwanted advances or comments, to cover my body as to not tempt you to sexually assault me, to reject your unwanted advances politely as to not… Continue

Social media (of which FB is just one) is a great way for people to stay in touch with friends and family who may be in another country. It can be a useful tool in many ways as long as anyone posting remembers once something is committed to the internet, it is there to stay.
The negative side of it as most of us are aware, is that some people feel they have a right to comment on another persons lifestyle/looks/gender/religion or something else.
One important thing many peopl… Continue

There is one simple exercise which I like to do on workshops: I ask participants to write kind wishes for themselves and others from the group. In most of the cases what usually happens is that people forget to write wishes for themselves, or they “leave them behind”, until the end of exercise and then write something quickly as possible without much thinking.
Before I started doing this exercise I thought that there are not many people how are being unkind and self-critical… Continue

To have a mindful mind means to practice paying attention, being aware of your surroundings, feelings, moods, your body, different sensations you experience in the present moment without judging or analyzing it, just simply being aware of it here and now.
There are times when our minds are full and not mindful, which means we are preoccupied with so many information, thoughts we have, which leads us to simply being unaware of everything… Continue

this is just some of the things I've learned, when both of my parents have passed.
Have a living will. All this means is making sure people know what you want for 'end of life medical care.' My mom had a dnr(do not resuscitate)and in her final months of ovarian cancer, my dad could never bear to do what had to be done. I've left strict instructions with my husband, my son and my doctor what I want. I want a dnr. If I can't have a meaningful life, please, let me go.

As a practicing psychotherapist and a life coach, I'd helped many people cope with panic attacks but never had one myself. That is, until about three years ago, when I was having lunch with a friend and suddenly felt something akin to a 400-pound bear jumping up and down on my chest.
Making vague excuses to my friend, I found my way to a nearby urgent care center. After one look at my blood pressure, the staff sent me to a hospital, where I spent the next 24 hours… Continue

So, you just walked into a Halloween party. You think you’re wearing a kick-ass costume, but instead of giving you a compliment, someone tells you that your costume counts as cultural appropriation.
And you think that’s a ridiculous accusation. You?Doing something racist?
You didn’t have hateful… Continue

I am 28 now. I don’t think about the past or regret things much these days.
But sometimes I wish that I had known some of things I have learned over the last few years a bit earlier. That perhaps there had been a self-improvement class in school. And in some ways there probably was.
Because some of these 16 things in this article a teacher probably spoke about in class. But I forgot about them or didn’t pay attention.
Some of it would probably not have stuck in my mind… Continue

I recently had a really good friend ask if she was here too much, where upon I burst out laughing. Most of you know, I just about live here, complete with a sleeping bag in the back.
I love walking the halls, reading a great discussion, writing a few and saying hello to my friends.
I've been here four years now(WOW)at a low point in my life. I had just left christianity and had decided to become a witch. I needed information and support, and well, help.… Continue

The customs of the holiday season, which include St. Nicholas Day, New Years Day, and Epiphany, as well as Christmas, often incorporate earlier pagan traditions that have been appropriated and adapted for contemporary use. Customs that encourage little children to be good, so as to deserve their Christmas gifts from Father Christmas, St.… Continue

Have you ever wondered how narcissists and sociopaths (narcopaths) are so highly skilled at control and manipulation tactics without ever having stepped foot in an advanced psychology classroom? Were you ever curious how by some means they instinctively know how to take a smart, successful and happy person and methodically dismantle their self-worth and self-esteem to smithereens so covertly that the target is completely unaware that it’s even happening until it is too late? Have you said to… Continue

There’s an enormous amount of research suggesting that emotional intelligence (EQ) is critical to your performance at work.
People with high EQs make $29,000 more annually than people with low EQs. Ninety percent of top performers have high EQs, and a single-point increase in your EQ adds $1,300 to your salary. I could go on and on.
Suffice it to say, emotional intelligence is a powerful way to focus your energy in one direction with tremendous results.…
