WELCOME TO EGYPTIAN LORE!

WELCOME TO EGYPTIAN LORE!

Em hotep" (EM ho-TEP) actually has several meanings, but when used as a salutation or parting phrase, it means "in peace". An extended version -- "ii-wy em hotep" -- means "Welcome in peace!" and was one of the most popular greetings in Kemetic.

Mask of Lady Tjuyu

Lady Tjuyu was the wife of Yuya and the mother of Queen Tiye. She is the grandmother of Akhenaten, and great grandmother of Tutankhamun. Lady Tjuyu was buried along with her husband in tomb (KV46) in the Valley of the Kings, West Thebes. The tomb was found nearly intact and displays the funerary furniture of high courtiers.

The mummy of Lady Tjuyu, placed in three anthropoid coffins, one inside the other, has a beautiful gilded and inlaid cartonnage mask. This mask, which was supposed to preserve the features of Tjuyu, aimed to help the soul recognize its wrapped corpse to facilitate resurrection.

Linen gauze covered the mask, which depicted the fine looking, distinguished and smiling face of Lady Tjuyu. The eyebrows, eyes and eyelids, as well as the broad collar, are all inlaid with stones and colored glass.

New Kingdom, late 18th Dynasty, reign of Amenhotep III, ca. 1391-1353 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. JE 95254

Nice image, L

"Egypt, of all ancient nations the most noted for its idolatry(sic-read Goddess spirituality in the way of Lunar and Solar Ophiolatreia, or Nature worship), was in its earliest days the home of the peculiar worship we are contemplating.

A learned writer on the subject says "the serpent entered into the Egyptian religion under all his characters---of an Emblem of Divinity, a Charm or Oracle, and a God."

Cneph, Thoth and Isis were conspicuous and chief among the gods and goddesses thus symbolized, though he is said to have entered more or less into the symbolical worship of all the gods.

Sanchoniathon describes Thoth as the founder of Serpent Worship in Egypt, and he is generally regarded as the planter of the earliest colonies in Phœnicia and Egypt after the Deluge.

He has been called the Reformer of the Religions of Egypt, and Deane says: "He taught the Egyptians (or rather that part of his colony which was settled in Egypt) a religion, which, partaking of Zabaism and Ophiolatreia, had some mixture also of primeval truth"

Indeed, truly primeval. From Atlantis, and that is how 'primitive' our roots are if one comes to think of it. Actually they reach deep, deeper than most would ever think

The Cobra and the Mongoose, traditional foes in Nature; are both Wadjet's sacred creatures, and the Goddess manifests as either - or , at will.

Wadjet is, along with Nekhbet, the protector of the lands of ancient Egypt.

Wadjet was closely associated with Sekhmet as well as Bastet. The Hieroglyphs for Wadjet are a single papyrus reed stem, with a serpent coiled around it. This was probably the first ever Caduceus!

Wadjet is also known in later times as a beautiful Goddess bearing a sceptre with a serpent entwined around, or as a winged Ureaus bearing a crown.

Goddess of fiery Kundalini power and of infinite Wisdom, healer and protector of all who will seek Her emerald green sanctuary.

!We Hail Thee, Wadjet!

As a devotee of Isis, it may seem very odd that I would also venerate the Great Serpents, or Dragons said to be totally evil and intent on destroying the natural Universe, or indeed Set, supposedly the arch-enemy of the Goddess according to some traditional views on the subject, the "murderer" of Osiris and the mortal enemy of Horus, termed the Avenger.

This seeming contradiction, however, is only contradictory if one approaches the Ancient Egyptian Pantheon from a patriarchal viewpoint. All of the original tales and sagas of the First Gods were edited and re-edited  over the span of many thousands of years, and after the early Coptic Christians got hold of them, the tales and the characters within them were given totally new meanings.

Originally, Set and Horus were always seen as One God; embodying the powers of Osiris. (This could only happen, though, with the unifying powers of the Great Goddess).

Set, the Lord of Death is the Divinity most often portrayed as the God directing the primal energies of Apep, however other Gods, including Anubis, the guardian of Isis also practice Dragon Magick in order to maintain the Balance and harmony of the Cosmos. .

Apep, or Apophis, is the Great Serpent of Ancient Egyptian herstory.

However, Apophis is not the "evil" serpent at all, and neither is Set, the Serpent God who was later on made into "the devil". Notice the magick Staff with which Set directs and mediates the raw power and energies of the Universe, represented by the Drakon, Apep ~ and contrary to popular belief amongst the unintiated, there is no "slaying of the Dragon" going on here ~ only the Egyptian version of Feng Shui !

Note the coiled helix shape of Apophis, the Pagan Dragon of Mother Nature ~
