Comment by Leila Raven on June 22, 2011 at 8:14am: Zephonith, I think like many things, it can be challenging to put in one discreet box or catgeory. Wicca will be different things to different people. For some it may be one or the other, or both.

It's not religions that cause divisions, it's not the faith, it's people choosing to interpret them in that way. There will be in any religion those who are tolerant, compassionate and devoted to humanity and world peace, and there will be those who are divisionary and judgmental.

People use beliefs, especially commonly held or group beliefs as rationalizations and excuses to hide their bad behaviour behind all the time. What better justification can one look for?

So yes, you will find some people say who are drawn to wicca because it provides an excuse say for their prejudices against men as it can be a very woman and goddess focused practice. They are using a 'higher power' as an excuse to cover their own fears and prejudices.

However, this has nothing inherently to do with Wicca... this is found in any belief system, people who will be attracted to it because they see in it the potential to excuse and justify their prejudice.
